Philosophy involves both systematic forms of inquiry and a prolonged reflection upon its own history. As one recent Holy Cross graduate, now a law school student said: “For me, philosophy was not just a major. It became an entirely new way of going about my daily life.”
Dr. Hess spent an earlier part of her professional career as a corporate environmental attorney at a top international firm in Chicago, working primarily on brownfields development, mergers and acquisitions, and compliance. She then decided she really wanted to change the world by teaching philosophy at a top college. Her research interests focus on questions of corporate moral obligation while her teaching focuses on ethics, applied ethics (business, professional, and environmental), and environmental philosophy.
Jerry met Dr. Hess during an Alumni opportunity to attend a class and was so impressed with her pedagogical impact and expertise that he asked if she would join our Board as a key adviser. She agreed and will be mentoring the Squidget team on ethical, effective decision-making.
